Ryanair makes no secret of the fact it's a budget carrier. It even once suggested passengers pay to use the toilet. But the Irish airline says it would never cut corners on safety, and has an excellent record. That's why it's sacked a senior pilot who appeared in a British TV documentary questioning Ryanair's safety culture. It also launched defamation proceedings against the pilot and the channel which broadcast the programme. Ryanair has been flying since 1985 and has grown to be one of Europe's largest airlines Chris Hughes from Reuters' Breaking View says the company has made a huge success of the low cost model - but not necessarily when it comes to employment. (SOUNDBITE)(ENGLISH) REUTERS BREAKINGVIEWS EDITOR CHRIS HUGHES SAYING: "It's not clear that that piece within the overall efficiency gains is actually paying off when the company has to deal - is facing these kinds of battles which do inevitably rub off on the reputation, might make people think twice about flying, and that's why the share price has gone down." The dispute has seen shares slide 7 per cent this week.
