(ROUGH CUT -- NO REPORTER NARRATION) Floods trigged by days of heavy rains have killed 37 people northeast China, state media reported on Sunday (August 18). It said facilities and farmlands had also been damaged. The floods on Friday destroyed homes, crops, roads and railways and felled power lines. In Heilongjiang province, economic losses were around 7.13 billion yuan ($1.15 billion ), state-run Xinhua news agency reported, adding that over 2,500 houses were destroyed. Local residents in Tailai county were evacuated to a safe location where tents were set up as shelter before floods peaked in the region, CCTV said. Rainfall is expected to ease in the next two days, CCTV reported, citing the Central Meteorological Station.
