Global track and field star Oscar Pistorius arrived in court on Monday.
He was visibly emotional as he prayed with family members before proceedings got under way.
Pistorius is expected to receive detailed charges for the Valentine's Day shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The double-amputee, known as "Blade Runner" for the prostheses he wears in competition, is due in a Pretoria magistrates court on for a hearing that will likely be brief and procedural. He was released on bail in February after being charged with murder.
Police said last week they had used forensic experts, ballistics experts, psychologists and technology experts to investigate the Feb. 14 death of Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot by Pistorius through a closed bathroom door at his upmarket Pretoria home.
