EDIT CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES As the death toll reportedly mounts following a chemical attack in Syria, unverified footage posted online purportedly shows the casualties. Activists accuse government forces of firing rockets with chemical agents that killed hundreds including children in several Damascus suburbs. Syrian National Coalition spokesman Khaled Saleh called it a "slap in the face of humanity". (SOUNDBITE) (English) SYRIAN NATIONAL COALITION SPOKESMAN, KHALED SALEH, SAYING: "We have eleven hundred and eighty eight people killed, of those over hundreds of children, due to the use of chemical weapons. The regime at the same time started to push its ground forces to enter to these areas, the situation is extremely dire." He called on United Nations inspectors to investigate. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SYRIAN NATIONAL COALITION SPOKESMAN, KHALED SALEH, SAYING: "It's very obvious to us that these chemical weapons were used and were carried out using ballistic missiles. Only the regime has the capability and willingness to use them against innocent civilians." Speaking in Belgium, British Foreign Secretary William Hague was awaiting confirmation. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH FOREIGN MINISTER WILLIAM HAGUE SAYING: "... If verified, this would be a shocking escalation of the use of chemical weapons in Syria, we are determined the people responsible will one day be held to account, I hope it will be made clear that the U.N. team now in Damascus will have unrestricted access to the area concerned and the United Kingdom will be raising this at the United Nation's Security Council." The Syrian military has denied the reports, saying they were completely untrue.
