The rugged terrain of California's Yosemite Park is what makes it so appealing to visitors. But it's causing big problems for these firefighters. The blaze, just outside Yosemite, tripled in size overnight to cover 54,000 acres and officials have asked thousands of residents to evacuate. It's one of 50 large wildfires currently burning in the Western United States, and has destroyed several buildings since it broke out last Saturday. Authorities say it is only 2 percent contained despite the efforts of more than 1,300 firefighters. On Thursday California Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency in the area. U.S. wildfire managers, facing increasingly strained resources, have opened talks with Pentagon commanders and Canadian officials about possible reinforcements to battle dozens of blazes raging across the drought-parched American West.
