A man with a handkerchief over his face is detained by police Friday.
He is one of five men suspected of gang-raping a female photo journalist in the financial centre of Mumbai - considered India's safest city for women.
Police are still searching for the others.
The attack happened here, in an abandoned textile mill where the woman in her 20s was taking photos with a male colleague.
She is now being treated in a hospital in southern Mumbai.
The city's police commissioner said all the suspects have been identified using detailed forensic sketches drawn from descriptions by the woman and her co-worker.
The incident has led to widespread anger on social media and prompted lawmakers to raise the issue in parliament.
Many compare this latest attack to an assault in New Delhi last December that led to nation-wide demonstrations and rape law revisions.
