Vin Diesel was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday (August 26). The actor - best known for his roles in the "Fast and Furious" franchise - was on hand to accept the honor, noting that he used to work on the same boulevard as a street performer decades ago.
SOUNDBITE: Vin Diesel saying (English):
"Thirty years ago, I made my living by dancing on corners like this, with crowds smaller than this, but the crowds bled into the street and stopped traffic. Thirty years ago my heart was singing because I was able to, in spite of the fact that the casting directors and the industry couldn't find a role for me, my heart was singing because I was able to perform out of love for all of you, to an audience on the street with my boom box and my hat ready to open up and I had some good jokes, it said if you don't have cash I do take credit cards."
The event came two days before the premiere of Diesel's latest movie, "Riddick," where he stars as the anti-hero title character, who this time is left for dead on a desert planet.
His previous film this summer, "Fast and Furious 6," has taken in more than 786 million dollars worldwide - one of the highest grossing films of the 2013 summer season. He will also star in the franchise's seventh film, slated to begin shooting in 2014.
