Syrian state television shows off the regime's military might. President Bashar al-Assad was quoted on Thursday saying his country will defend itself in the face of any aggression. This a reaction to the growing war-cries from the United States and its allies who have threatened military action in response to Assad's alleged chemical weapons attacks last week that killed hundreds. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned on Wednesday the threat of foreign intervention would be a disaster for the region. The U.S. and its allies will suffer the consequences as they did in Iraq and Afghanistan, he said. Meanwhile on Thursday, France's President Francois Hollande said a political solution could only be achieved if the Syrian opposition is strengthened militarily by the international community. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH PRESIDENT, FRANCOIS HOLLANDE, SAYING: "Everything must be done for a political solution but it will only happen if the coalition is able to appear as an alternative with the necessary force, notably with its army." Hollande indicated he's looking to Gulf Arab countries to step up their armed support for the opposition.
