The White House says it's on track to deliver a report to the American public that could pave the way to an attack on Syria. SOUNDBITE: White House Spokesman Josh Earnest saying: "There is a preponderance of publicly available evidence to support that the Assad regime used chemical weapons --- It is apparent that they used them on the night of August 21st." White House Spokesman Josh Earnest says an intelligence report supporting this finding is expected sometime this week, and that consultations between the President and congress are underway. His remarks come as UN teams gathered evidence in the Damascus suburb where the attack is said to have taken place. Asked what role their (UN) findings might play, Earnest had this to say: SOUNDBITE: White House Spokesman Josh Earnest saying: "The entire international community acknowledges that chemical weapons were used. The Syrian regime acknowledges that chemical weapons were used. It is not within the mandate of those UN inspectors to assess the responsibility for the use of those weapons. It's just in their mandate to assess that they were used. That's no longer an open question." The U.S. has spent the past week repositioning its resources around Syria including moving destroyers like the USS Mahan. It is also staging aircraft at this military base in neighboring Turkey --- much to the chagrin of locals. SOUNDBITE: Turkish Protester Alican Soylen saying: (Turkish) "The U.S. is trying to play dirty games in Syria like it did before in Iran, Iraq, Egypt and Libya. This should be prevented, therefore people should raise their voices" While the U.S. says it is still considering its response to Syria, many security experts suspect the dialog has moved beyond if the U.S. will attack, to when.
