Sept. 3 - Rookie hunters catch and kill a 727 pound alligator, setting a record in Mississippi. Linda So reports.

It's not everyday you see something like this. Take a look at the heaviest alligator killed in Mississippi. The lucky guy to get him, 27-year-old Dustin Bockman on his very first gator hunt. SOUNDBITE (English) DUSTIN BOCKMAN, KILLED THE ALLIGATOR, SAYING: "It's the first one I've ever killed." The massive alligator weighs a whopping 727 pounds and is 13 feet long. SOUNDBITE (English) DUSTIN BOCKMAN, KILLED THE ALLIGATOR, SAYING: "It was like trying to pull a tree out of the water. It just would go to the bottom and would not move. It didn't matter what you did. It'd just stay there until he decided to move." It took three shots to the head to kill the gator, earning it a nickname. SOUNDBITE (English) DUSTIN BOCKMAN, KILLED THE ALLIGATOR, SAYING: "Elmer, when you stick a gun in the water and it shoots, the pressure, the gas comes out and it can't come out the end of the barrel. It exploded the gun barrel back like a banana ... He said that it looked like Elmer Fudd on the cartoon so he called him 'Elmer'." It took a lot of patience to pull the huge gator from the water. The group had to wait until dawn to get help.
