Daily Digit: 16 mln vehicles

Sept. 4 - U.S. auto sales were over 16 million vehicles- the first time U.S. sales topped that level since November of 2007. Bobbi Rebell reports.

Today's daily digit is more than 16 million. That's how many vehicles were sold in the US in August on an annualized basis, according to several automakers. It is the first time US sales topped that level since November of 2007. US auto sales on track to be up as much as 17 percent in August- the strongest month since the start of the 2007-2009 recession. GM sales were up 15 percent. Toyota up 23 percent- both much better than forecasts. Ford and Chrysler sales were each up 12 percent. The big seller continues to be pickup trucks. And by the way - the average price for a new vehicle in the US- up to $31,252 according to TrueCar.com
