Children lay wounded in a hospital in Iraq after a gunman opened fire inside a Shi'ite home outside of Baghdad overnight.
Sixteen members of one family were killed. This young girl and her brother were amongst the survivors.
We were in the house and they stormed through the windows and shot us, she said. We hid in the corner and they showered the wall with bullets.
Amongst the dead were six children, and eight women.
Earlier Tuesday, a series of car bombs killed nearly 60 people in predominately Shi'ite neighbourhoods across the city.
It's not clear who was responsible for the car bombings or the gunman attack, but Sunni Islamist militants have been striking with increased brutality.
The two year old civil war in neighbouring Syria has aggravated the deep-rooted sectarian divisions between Shi'ite, Sunni and Kurdish factions.
