ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) United States (U.S.) President Barack Obama landed at Arlanda airport just outside the Swedish capital Stockholm on Wednesday (September 4) morning. He was greeted by the leaders of the Swedish governing alliance parties as well as Foreign Minister Carl Bildt. Afterwards he was driven straight to Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt's office for a bilateral meeting which was set to focus on Syria, free trade, the Arctic and Russia. Sweden has moved closer to NATO, criticised Russian "soft power" in the region and tried to ensure its role as a regional powerbroker in the Arctic and former Soviet Baltic states. After a joint news conference with Reinfeldt, Obama will visit a synagogue to commemorate the actions by Swedish Holocaust hero Raoul Wallenberg, and the Royal Institute of Technology. In the evening, Obama will attend a working dinner with other Nordic leaders who are keen to show the importance of Europe's northern rim as new Arctic sea routes open and China and Russia explore for resources. Obama will end his visit with a meeting at the royal palace with Sweden's King Carl Gustaf on Thursday (September 5) morning.
