The date --- September 11th was not likely to pass without notice --- at least in Benghazi where a car bomb went off near the Libyan foreign ministry. There were no casualties but the blast --- on the first anniversary of the killing of four American diplomats at the consulate here and the 12th anniversary of the attacks on the U.S. --- seemed to offer a resounding answer to the question --- is Benghazi any safer a year later? Libyan Interior Minister Al-Sadeeq Abdul Karim. LIBYAN INTERIOR MINISTER, ACTING INTERIOR MINISTER AL-SADEEQ ABDUL KARIM, SAYING: "We want everyone to know that the police and the army at the ministry of interior, in coordination with some countries such as the U.S. and Italy, are taking the necessary measures to find the criminals." According to officials, the explosion in Benghazi was just one several planned for the day. Security forces were able to dismantle a large bomb near the foreign ministry headquarters in Tripoli. Last year's attack in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens -- and the fallout from the Obama administration's initial assessment of the situation - has been a sticking point for some Americans who have accused the White House of not being forthcoming about the fact Islamist militants were behind the attack. For others, the city's still shaking security seemed further proof that the Arab spring had unleashed even more uncertainty in an already volatile region.
