Sept. 11 - A reading of the names of the nearly 3,000 people killed when hijacked jetliners crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field marks the 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Katharine Jackson reports.

The names of nearly 3,000 people killed when hijacked jetliners crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field are read aloud on Wednesday (September 11), the 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks of 2001. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED VICTIM'S RELATIVE SAYING: "My beloved son, Joshua Todd Aron, I miss you every moment." UNIDENTIFIED VICTIM'S RELATIVE SAYING: "And my brother, Richard Avery Aronow, we love you, we miss you still and think of you every day." More than a thousand people gather at the September 11 Memorial plaza in Manhattan around reflecting pools in the footprint of the fallen twin towers. At the Pentagon, President Barack Obama asks Americans to pray for those whose lives were lost....and reflects on the limits of force the morning after urging Americans to support his proposal to use military force against Syria. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING: "Let us have the wisdom to know that, while force is at times necessary, force alone cannot build the world we seek." At the Flight 93 National Memorial, a bell rings for each of the passengers and crew members killed when United Flight 93 hit the ground near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Nineteen hijackers died in the attacks, later claimed by Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda. Two skyscrapers are nearly completed at Memorial Plaza in New York, including One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.
