STORY: Even as the U.S. and Russia make progress in their plans to remove chemical weapons from Syria, fighting between rebels and government forces shows no signs of stopping. New amateur video appears to show government shelling in the Barzeh neighborhood of a rebel-held suburb of Damascus. Clouds of black and grey smoke rise across the skyline as gunfire and shelling echo throughout the area. Reuters cannot verify the content of the video, which was obtained from a social media website. Meanwhile, Syrian Television reports that government forces have regained control of several parts of the ancient Christian town of Maaloula. The town was the site of intense fighting this week, having changed hands three times between President Bashar al-Assad's forces and rebel groups. Maaloula is home to a number of churches and important monasteries, some of which were damaged in the fighting. As the fighting continues, the opposition Syrian National Coalition has announced it will appoint a new prime minister to oversee a response to the ongoing negotiations between Russia and the U.S.
