ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION Exhausted salvage workers returned to the port of Giglio in Italy early on Tuesday morning (September 17) to applause and hugs from the local population after completing the parbuckling operation to rotate the Costa Concordia upright. The crowds were keen to show their gratitude to the workers who have been on the island for over a year working to help remove the immense hulk of the Concordia. Tired but happy, the workers stopped to shake hands and receive a few slaps on their backs from supporters. "Bravi, bravi" said a smiling woman as she clasped a salvage worker by his cheeks. Islanders have been gathering port side to get a good look at the ship that has haunted their community since January 2012. The side of the vessel that had been laying on the rocks is badly damaged and only after days of tests and checks will the salvage team be able to assess how much work needs to be done before they can tow the ship away.
