How many people have been hit when a gunman opened fire in a Chicago park wasn't immediately clear.
Unconfirmed reports suggest up to 12 may have been shot and that one of the victims may have been a three-year-old child.
There were no immediate reports that anyone was killed.
Witnesses said everything happened very quickly.
(SOUNDBITE)(English) JOSH, WITNESS, SAYING:
"Man, I think it was an AK. There were lots of shots man. It was like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. I would say like nine, ten people got hit. A little kid got hit in the face. I don't know if he's still alive, I don't know what's his condition."
(SOUNDBITE)(English) JACK, WITNESS, SAYING:
"I just heard the shots, like 20 shots, and I just walked over here. Police came over real quick. They got here real fast."
Police said the shootings happened at about 10.15 local time on Thursday night.
(SOUNDBITE)(English) JAMES MUNGOVAN, DEPUTY DISTRICT CHIEF, DISTRICT FIVE, SAYING:
"We had multiple victims shot that were transported to various hospitals throughout the city."
By six hours after the attack police said no-one was yet in custody.
