"Everyone around me was shot," says Kenya mall attack survivor

Sep. 28 - Newly released Red Cross video shows the chaos outside the Nairobi mall the first day shots rang out, as one survivor recovers from the emotional trauma of the attack. Gavino Garay reports.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS EDIT CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES Newly released Red Cross video shows the harrowing scene at the Westgate shopping mall on the first day of the attack by al Shabaab militants that killed 67 civilians. What one Nairobi man thought was a robbery at first, turned out to be an attack by al Qaeda-linked militants. (SOUNDBITE) (English) GENE MUGAKI, MALL ATTACK SURVIVOR SAYING: "At one point I heard them engaging a lady, asking, because the lady started saying 'I'll give you money' and that's when this Somali terrorist replied, and was quite angry, saying 'we are not here for money, we are mujahideen!' and they shot her." The ordeal left him coping with the trauma of seeing so many shot to death. (SOUNDBITE) (English) GENE MUGAKI, MALL ATTACK SURVIVOR SAYING: "So I got up and that's when I noticed everyone around me was shot - apart from one gentleman who was next to me - either they had a bullet wound on the leg, on the chest, some on the head." The Kenyan Red Cross is conducting door to door visits around the city and is holding counseling sessions with victims of the attack. (NAT SOUND) Al Shabaab, which launched the attack, says it did so to demand that Kenya remove its troops from Somalia.
