As the clock ticks closer to a potential government shutdown, House Republicans, perched on Senate steps, cry out to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to open the Senate. Republican House Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Oregon: (SOUNDBITE) (English) REPRESENTATIVE CATHY MCMORRIS RODGERS, REPUBLICAN OF OREGON AND CHAIR OF THE HOUSE REPUBLICAN CONFERENCE, SAYING: "Now today we see where the Senate doors are shut. They're locked. Senator Harry Reid says it is inevitable that the government is going to shut down. Well if the Senate doesn't act it may be inevitable but we're hear to say that the Senate needs to act. Why are they waiting? Why aren't those doors open?" One woman voices her opinion in front of the group of Republicans. Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of California: (SOUNDBITE) (English) REPRESENTATIVE DANA ROHRABACHER, REPUBLICAN OF CALIFORNIA, SAYING: "If this government shuts down it's because the Senate, the Democrats who control the Senate, playing politics, want to shut down the government because they have refused to even consider the compromise we have offered. This President negotiates with all kinds of despots and terrorist leaders. He won't even negotiate with us." They had previously approved a spending bill in the early hours Sunday that included amendments aimed at delaying President Obama's Affordable Healthcare Act. Republican lawmakers are trying to derail the act, known as 'Obamacare', which is slated to roll out Tuesday, shutdown or no shutdown.
