Hearing postponed for accused mastermind of Silk Road website

Oct. 4 - The 29-year old alleged Silk Road mastermind, accused of running the illegal goods website, has bail hearing postponed. Gavino Garay reports.

Federal authorities caught on to the alleged mastermind behind the online Silk Road drug bazaar -- what some call a part of the 'dark internet'. But the accused 29-year-old, Ross William Ulbricht, had his bail hearing postponed, in order to provide his lawyers more time to prepare. Wearing a red jail uniform, Ulbricht is seen here in San Francisco courtroom represented by a public defender. He was arrested by the FBI for allegedly running the Silk Road website, a marketplace for illegal goods and drugs like cannabis, ecstasy and opioids. Former FBI Assistant Director of the New York office Jan Fedarcyk: SOUNDBITE (English) JAN FEDARCYK, FORMER FBI ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, NY OFFICE: "The silk road was set up to be completely anonymous -- hidden from law enforcement efforts...This is a website through which it's estimated 1.2 billion dollars passed." According to court filings, Ulbricht has been charged by Federal prosecutors in New York with narcotics trafficking conspiracy, among other counts.
