Theron, Kidman among women honored for charitable work

Oct. 04 - Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Jennifer Hudson are recognized for their philanthropic contributions to charities close to their hearts at Variety's Power of Women event. Roselle Chen reports.

Variety's Power of Women luncheon was a star-studded affair in Beverly Hills on Friday (October 4).
Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Hudson were just some of the celebrities seen on the red carpet ahead of the celebration, which honors women in the entertainment industry who have made considerable efforts for their charitable causes.
Theron said the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach was very close to her heart.

"The youth has a very, very high percentage of becoming HIV positive, just purely by not having the knowledge of knowing how to protect themselves. HIV/AIDS has been a big problem, South Africa is the highest hit in the entire world."
Kidman was honored for her philanthropic efforts with UN Women.

"I was raised by a mother that was always wanting her little girls to know that they had opportunities that were equal to that of men, and now that's a very strong purpose of mine, is to help supply that to a much broader group of young girls, the next generation."
Hudson was deeply affected by the death of her late nephew, Julian King, and was honored for making a significant difference in the lives of children.

Power of Women's goal is to spread awareness about the charities that women in the entertainment industry support.
