Spectacular fireworks lit up the sky above Sydney on Saturday (October 5) as Australia celebrated 100 years since the Royal Australian Navy fleet first entered the city's harbour. The fireworks and lighting display was advertised by the Navy on their website as "the most complex highly choreographed fireworks, projection, lighting and live action show ever seen in Australia, or even the world". Fireworks were launched from Sydney rooftops, the Harbour Bridge and from decks of warships. The fireworks were accompanied by a light show, projections telling the history of the Royal Australian Navy on the Opera House sails, and choreographed fly-overs from Navy and Air Force aircraft. More than one million visitors were expected in Sydney to watch and take part in the Navy's celebrations. Earlier on Saturday, more than 20 warships from 17 countries, including China, United States, United Kingdom, France and India took part in the International Fleet Review (IFR).
