(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) POPE FRANCIS SAYING:
"I would like to remember, together with you, the people who lost their lives in Lampedusa last Thursday.. (APPLAUSE) Let us pray in silence for our brothers and sisters, women, men, children, letting our hearts cry. Let us pray in silence."
Meanwhile, divers scoop up bodies in Italy's turbulent waters.
Doctor Emilio Schirru recalls the initial rescue effort.
(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) DOCTOR EMILIO SCHIRRU OF ORDER OF MALTA RELIEF CORPS SAYING:
"We moved a few meters and what we saw there was a sea of corpses. There were all these bodies that were floating around our vessel. So we got started and lowered our dinghy in the water for the rescue, well, rescue isn't the right word because at that point all we were doing was recovering bodies."
About 500 migrants were aboard the packed boat, which according to survivors caught fire then capsized. 181 bodies have been recovered and hundreds are still missing.
