ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Presidents and prime ministers turned out in host country Indonesia's traditional batik costumes for an official dinner on Monday as the first day of meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit drew to a close. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and first lady Kristiani Herawati, also dressed in batiks, greeted the leaders including China's Xi Jinping in crimson red and Russia's Vladimir Putin in forest green. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in a violet shirt, was also greeted by Yudhoyono as the stand-in for President Barack Obama, who canceled his Asia trip due to the U.S. government shutdown. The gala dinner comes after a day of speeches and closed-door bilateral meetings. The economically-focused summit aims to help sustain growth in its member states. APEC, which accounts for 55 percent of global real gross domestic product (GDP) growth, said in a joint statement last week that "risks remain tilted to the downside" and that economic growth would be slower and less balanced than desired.
