Oct. 24 - Hundreds of clowns from across the Americas converge in Mexico City to attend the 18th annual clown convention to hone their clowning skills. Tara Cleary reports.

Starting them out young, Mexico's 18th annual clown convention gets underway with its signature colorful parade. The "Festival of Laughter" as it's also known, is convened by the Brotherhood of Latin Clowns. SOUNDBITE: Pingo the clown, saying (Spanish): "We're about 500 clowns, 12 countries and we've come to exchange experiences on how to be a clown." Clowns are a familiar part of Mexican culture and life. Thousands of comics perform tricks at traffic intersections to earn a few pesos. It's a tough life and the convention is part of an effort to maintain high standards so that clowns don't lose income. SOUNDBITE: Pompin the clown, saying (Spanish): "Fortunately, we clowns that are trained are not worried about that. We don't suffer a lot like the majority of society.
