Shooting suspect prompts police standoff

Oct. 28 - Suspect has barricaded himself inside an apartment in Arlington, Texas after a Monday morning shooting. Linda So reports.

Police rush to the scene of a standoff in Arlington, Texas. SWAT team officers are negotiating with a shooting suspect who has barricaded himself inside an apartment building. This resident had to crawl out of his bedroom window to safety. SOUNDBITE: WITNESS JEFF BIDWELL, SAYING: "There were a lot of shots, lot going on. Evidently they're still up there." The suspect fired at police as they arrived. It's unknown at this point how many people the gunman shot during the early morning shooting. SOUNDBITE: ARLINGTON POLICE LT. CHRISTOPHER COOK, SAYING: "We're trying to negotiate right now with the suspect to ensure a peaceful surrender. I assure you that we do have the apartment complex completely surrounded." Police are evacuating surrounding apartments as a precaution.
