Private employers weren't in a big rush to do much hiring in October. According to payroll company ADP, private employers boosted employment by a weaker-than-expected 130,000. That's the lowest number of job creation since April. And that comes on the back of a downward revision to September's figures. Hiring in the vast private sector has slowed for four months in a row. The ADP report is the latest sign that corporate decision makers began sitting on their hands before a 16-day shutdown paralyzed Washington at the beginning of October. Normally, this survey comes out a few days before the government's wider-reaching jobs data, but the Labor Department's monthly report is delayed until November 8th to make up for data collection not done during the shutdown.
