Voters head to the polls on Election Day - where the focus of the off-year elections - points to races in New York, New Jersey and Virginia. After months of tough campaigning, Virginians cast their ballots in the race for governor. Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe - a businessman and major party fundraiser - has led the polls ahead of Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli - the Tea Party favorite. The contest in Virginia has become a closely watched battleground ahead of the mid-term congressional elections next year - and the presidential election in 2016. SOUNBITE: VIRGINIA VOTER, SAYING: "I voted for Ken Cuccinelli and Mark Obenshain because they will stop Obamacare and Obamacare I'm already seeing it hurting a lot of people in Virginia and they will stop it." SOUNBITE: VIRGINIA VOTER, SAYING: "The intrusion of the Republicans into all rights of both female and women's issues, civil rights issues, I think is way off base." In New Jersey - Republican Governor Chris Christie is expected to win re-election against his Democratic opponent Barbara Buono. Heading into Tuesday - Christie - a possible contender for the White House - was ahead in the polls by more than 30 points. For the first time in 12 years, New Yorkers voted - to decide their next mayor. Public opinion polls put the city's public advocate Democrat Bill de Blasio with more than a 40 point lead over Republican rival Joe Lhota. De Blasio campaigned as much against Lhota - as he did against outgoing Mayor Michael Bloomberg - who supported the controversial police tactic "stop-and-frisk." Polls will close first in Virginia followed by New Jersey and then New York.
