Nov. 6 - New York elects Democrat mayor for the first time in two decades. Paul Chapman reports.

Bill de Blasio is the first Democrat to win the job of New York Mayor in two decades. The Liberal Democrat will succeed Michael Bloomberg on a pledge to bring the two New Yorks of rich and poor closer together. (SOUNDBITE)(English) BILL DE BLASIO, NEW YORK MAYOR-ELECT, SAYING: "Our greatness is not accidental, but neither is it inevitable. To maintain that greatness and to ensure that our brightest days are ahead of us we must commit ourselves to progressive ideas that will lift us all up." Despite a decisive win de Blasio has his work cut out. New York's facing a budget gap of $2.2 billion dollars in the next financial year, and retroactive public sector pay rise demands that could cost up to $8 billion.
