ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION STORY: In its 24th edition, Rio Fashion Week in Brazil kicked off with three local designers presenting their new 2014 Winter collections on Wednesday (November 6). The event showcasing the best in Rio fashion opened with a Technicolor splash of radiant prints when Patricia Viera's new organic winter collection hit the catwalk. Viera's stunning and eclectic designs were highlighted by dynamic animal prints, outrageous color, beads, and floral allusions. The born and bred Rio designer has participated in several Rio Fashion Weeks and boasts not only a global pedigree but is also credited with creating well over 40 multibrands that are available both in Brazil and abroad. The show then switched gears embracing a much edgier sphere of design when Alessa's new collection christened Concreto, or "concrete" in English, gave fashionistas in attendance a decidedly more urban take on the coming season. Alessa chose to honor architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha with cubist stamps while leaning heavily on electric black and white combinations brought to life with the rich texture of tweed and chiffon fabrics. Rio Fashion Week, which lasts until November 9, comes on the heels of big sister event Sao Paulo Fashion Week which wrapped last week.
