EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 Bo Xilai, the former Chinese political leader who's sitting in a jail cell on corruption charges, can add one more title to his resume- new political party leader. Last week, a group of Bo Xilai supporters announced the formation of the Zhi Xian Party-which translates as 'the constitution is the supreme authority' party. And they named Bo 'chairman for life'. Now, in the past, activists have been jailed for setting up political parties, although the constitution doesn't explicitly allow or ban their establishment. One of the party's founders, an associate professor at the Beijing Institute of Economics, explained to Reuters by phone why they chose Bo to lead their party. (SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AT BEIJING INSTITUTE OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT AND ZHIXIAN PARTY CO-FOUNDER, WANG ZHENG, SAYING: (AUDIO LAID OVER SHOT OF PHONE) "There are two reasons for Bo Xilai being our party chief. Firstly, as a new party, the leader must have prestige. His Chongqing model was about common prosperity. China's basic political system is a socialist system. The basis of socialism is public ownership. So for the entire population, they must achieve common prosperity." As for Bo, party members said they sent him a letter via the warden of his prison informing him of his new designation... it's unclear what his response was.
