Fire truck crashes into fence

Fire officials say failed brakes caused a fire truck to slam into a fence as it responded to a blaze at a Memphis apartment building. Deborah Gembara reports.

They were responding to a fire at this apartment building in Memphis. What happened next took everyone by surprise. No one was injured in the crash. Fire officials say the vehicle's brakes failed, despite being inspected just hours earlier. They also say they're working with trucks that are at least 20 years old. Joe Norman, Memphis Firefighters Association. SOUNDBITE: Joe Norman, Memphis Firefighters Association saying: "It's wore out, beat down over time responding to emergencies. it needs to be replaced... It is fortunate the fence was there, otherwise who knows what could have occurred." He also noted that the crash didn't deter the fire fighters who went right to work putting out the blaze.
