TV AND WEB RESTRICTIONS~**NO ACCESS PHILIPPINES*~ A huge international relief operation swings into action. U.S. military planes and other naval ships send food, water and medical teams to the worst hit areas of the Philippines ravaged by a super typhoon. The United States says its support is on an unprecedented scale with other US vessels to arrive in about a week. Aircraft carrier the USS George Washington and two cruisers arrived on Thursday. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. EMBASSY IN MANILA CHARGE D'AFFAIRES, BRIAN GOLDBECK, SAYING: "I think the key point here is that, a large volume of assistance was pushed through to Tacloban. Now what's happening, is that the MV-22s, the Ospreys, together with the helicopters from George Washington carrier strike group, together with the Philippines' own helicopters. All of those assets are now moving resources from Tacloban to multiple point, I think 16 or 18 different drop points, yesterday and today. So if you think of it as a hub and spoke arrangement, those are being pushed out, and from those end points, even more are being pushed out from there, so I think that we can say there is good distribution now happening through many areas that may have not seen good distribution before." Despite the relief effort, thousands of survivors line up at Tacloban's ruined airport trying to leave the city. Many countries have pledged to help. A medical team from Canada has arrived in the Philippine province of Iloilo. They're serving as an advanced team, specializing in disaster relief and water purification and they'll soon be reinforced by another 100 soldiers. The first major aid ship has arrived in Tacloban port. The Norwegian vessel had been on a training mission in the Philippines when the most powerful typhoon on record ripped through the Philippines last Friday. Training was suspended and instead the ship picked up aid to deliver to the devastated city of Tacloban.
