Samsung says it sold 800,000 of its Galaxy Gear smartwatches in its first two months on the market. The strong numbers are a big surprise to many. A lot of reviewers panned the device saying that there weren't a lot of compelling features in the watch and predicted that there would not be a lot of demand. Early reports said the device had a 30 percent return rate in the U.S. stores of Best Buy. It's also pricey at $300 and just works as an accessory to the popular Galaxy smartphone, with a small screen that offers basic functions like photos, hands-free calls and message notifications. But Samsung has been pouring marketing resources into the Gear, with heavy advertisements and collaborations with fashion shows, to grab the leadership in the wearable computer market.
