A somber day in American history. The nation pauses to remember the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination. The day began with a wreath laying ceremony at JFK's gravesite near the Eternal Flame at Arlington National Cemetery. JFK's sister, Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith, was there for the tribute. A steady stream of visitors stood in silence to honor the former president. All around Washington, at the White House, the U.S. Capitol, and at the nation's major landmarks, flags were lowered to half staff. President Obama gave the order to mark the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination.
