Lady Gaga captured imaginations with her entrance to the American Music Awards on Sunday, arriving apparently on horseback.
Miley Cyrus, One Direction and Ariana Grande all wowed on the red carpet for the awards, which are voted for by the public online and via Twitter.
Justin Timberlake scooped three awards while One Direction only received the one for Best Band.
But it was Taylor Swift who scooped the biggest prize for Artist of the Year on top of three others.
SOUNDBITE: American Music Award Artist of the Year, Taylor Swift, saying:
"Winning artist of the year for the third time is kind of a little bit mind-numbingly unbelievable, and I'm just... It's a little hard to absorb it all at once, to answer your question, it's amazing and the fact that it's fan voted makes it that much better, this year has been unreal for me with this album, I did... I don't expect things to do well just by default, so for this to happen is wonderful."
Performance highlights saw Gaga and R Kelly dancing through a presidential-performance.
Miley Cyrus donned a cat-themed leotard and performed her hit "Wrecking Ball" in front of a kitten on a big screen behind her, mouthing all the words.
