U.S. SpaceX of California, carrying a communications satellite, is preparing to blast off into space on Monday. It's one of only two U.S. commercial companies to have delivered cargo to the International Space Station -- and its brand's reputation depends on Monday's launch. In September, SpaceX conducted a demonstration launch of its new Falcon 9 spacecraft, seen here, which launched a Canadian space weather research satellite into polar orbit. But the rocket's second-stage failed to restart in space. The company said frozen fuel lines were to blame. Since then, it has added a new thermal system as a potential fix to the problem. If SpaceX manages to successfully launch the broadcaster satellite into geosynchronous orbit, it will be a huge win for the company. Launching successfully would also mean a more diversified, free-enterprise spaceflight industry as a whole. Still, scientists point out the satellite launch industry is scrupulous -- and not tolerant of risk, or failure... so Monday's launch will be closely watched by the industry.
