Spirit Awards announced, Franco set for Broadway

Nov 26 - The day's top showbiz news and headlines including nominations for he 2014 Spirit Awards have been announced, James Franco is headed to Broadway, and Lady Gaga lands in Japan. Bob Mezan reports.

The nominations for the 2014 Film Independent's Spirit Awards have been announced. "12 Years A Slave" got multiple nods, including best screenplay, best male lead for Chiwetel Ejiofor, best supporting male for Michael Fassbender, best supporting female for Lupita Nyong'o, and one for the top prize, best feature. The so-called Indie Oscars will be handed out on March 01. James Franco is headed to Broadway. Franco will star in an upcoming production of "Of Mice and Men." The play, about two migrant laborers looking for work during the Great Depression, was last seen on Broadway in 1975. It's set to begin previews on March 19. Lady Gaga landed in Japan on Tuesday (November 26) to promote her latest album "ARTPOP." The singer was greeted by hordes of screaming fans who gathered at Narita airport. Gaga took time to sign autographs and take pictures with all her Tokyo 'little monsters.' Finally, the black bird figurine from the 1941 film "The Maltese Falcon" sold for 4 million dollars at auction. The 45-pound, 12-inch statue went to an unidentified bidder who placed their bid via phone at auction house Bonhams on Monday (November 25).
