Former South African President F.W. de Klerk pays tribute to Nelson Mandela in Cape Town, South Africa after learning of the former leader's death Thursday. He's one of many in South Africa expressing grief, adoration and love as they mourn the 95 year old former South African president and anti-apartheid icon. SOUNDBITE: F.W. DE KLERK, FORMER SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT SAYING: "It is with great sadness that I learned late last night about the death of Nelson Mandela. My wife Elita and I reached out to his wife, Mrs. Samora Machel, she is a good friend of ours." SOUNDBITE: F.W. DE KLERK FORMER SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT, SAYING: "I think he deserves the image as one of the greatest people on earth during the past century." SOUNDBITE: F.W. DE KLERK, FORMER SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT, SAYING: "I remember with great warmth the moment he spontaneously, when after his inauguration he and I and (then deputy President of South Africa) Thabo Mbeki went to the terrace of the Union Building, (he) grabbed my hand, grabbed Thabo Mbeki's hand, and it's a famous photo now, and held the hands in the air, sending the message that notwithstanding previous divisions, together we will build the new South Africa."
