Miley Cyrus has been named best artist of 2013 by MTV. The channel said the singer dominated the music charts and the headlines with the release of her album "Bangerz," her performances at awards shows and her hosting stint on the television sketch show "Saturday Night Live." She is the third artist to receive the distinction of being named MTV's Best Artist of the Year with past honorees including Katy Perry and One Direction.
Adam Sandler has topped a less flattering list. The actor has been named Forbes magazine's most overpaid actor of 2013. Forbes made their calculations based on an actor's last three films, ending June 01. According to the magazine, for every dollar Sandler was paid in his past three films, the films returned an average of $3.40. Also included on the list were Katherine Heigl and Reese Witherspoon.
On a third year-in-review list, Jennifer Lawrence was named the top star of 2013 by movie website IMDB. The website made their ratings based on page views of celebrities on their site. Lawrence - who currently stars in "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "American Hustle" - outpaced her nearest competitor, Chloe Grace Moretz, with more than 89 percent more page views on IMDb throughout the year.
Finally, Tom Hanks hit the red carpet in Los Angeles for the launch of "Saving Mr. Banks." The Oscar-winning actor was joined by Emma Thompson for the premiere of the movie, which recounts the untold story of how Disney's classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the screen. The films opens on December 20.
