House Republicans say the budget deal hammered out with Democrats is a compromise that is good for the American people. Speaking to reporters after a closed conference with Republican leaders, House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan says the agreement reaches common ground with Democrats. "We understand in this divided government, we're not going to get everything we want. And so what we want to do is to take a step toward that goal, a step in the direction toward that vision. And by having a budget agreement that does not raise taxes, that does reduce the deficit, and produces some certainty and prevents government shutdowns, we think is a good agreement," said Ryan. The proposed deal is up for a vote in both chambers of Congress this week, the final week of this year's session.
