Beyonce surprised fans on Friday (December 13) by releasing her fifth album without warning on iTunes. It contains not just 14 tracks but also 17 videos. The press statement said the sudden album release was "strategic" as the artist had been a target of leaked tracks in the past.
Bruno Mars has been selected as Billboard's Artist of the Year. His best-selling album of 2013, "Unorthodox Jukebox," sold more than 1.8 million copies and its song "When I Was Your Man" went to number one on the Billboard charts. Mars has sold more than 120 million singles worldwide.
Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce from Lamar Odom on Friday (December 13). She listed the reason for the split as irreconcilable differences. In August, celebrity tabloid TMZ had reported that Odom was missing for days with family members having no knowledge of his whereabouts. Friends tweeted their concern for the NBA player after rumors about a possible drug addiction. Odom has been married to Kardashian since 2009.
It was a busy day for Golden Globe nominees, as they attended two film premieres on Thursday (December 12), the same day as the announcements. "August: Osage County" earned Golden Globe nominations for Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep. Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams were at the premiere of "Her." Phoenix received a Golden Globe nod for his work in the film and Adams said she was "fortunate" for her nomination in "American Hustle."
