It's day three of a strike in Germany but Amazon says there's no need for customers to worry. Orders placed before Dec 21 will arrive in time for Christmas. Longer term though Amazon does have a problem. Hundreds of its warehouse staff say they want pay and conditions in line with others in the sector. (SOUNDBITE) (German) AMAZON EMPLOYEE ON STRIKE, FRANK WISKER, SAYING: "Money to me is secondary. What's important are the working conditions. I have been with Amazon eight and a half years and the job wears you out." The strike is the latest in a series staged this year. And unions believe the action could soon impact sales. SOUNDBITE: Mechtild Middek, Verdi Union representative, saying (English): "The ball is in Amazon's court: they could signal that they want to take up wage negotiations and then we would obviously end the strike. But as long as Amazon is not willing to sit down at the negotiating table with us, there will be further strikes." Germany is Amazon's second biggest market after the United States. It employes around 9,000 warehouse staff, plus an extra 14,000 seasonal workers. It insists it pays according to industry standards. And higher salaries aren't justified for a largely unskilled workforce.
