Former National Football League star Aaron Hernandez, who was accused of killing a semi-professional football player in June, was back in a Massachusetts court Monday afternoon for a pretrial conference and discovery status hearing.
The defense filed a motion asking the judge to issue a formal gag order, claiming leaks in the case threaten their client's ability to get a fair trial.
Prosecutors insisted nobody on their team has leaked information about the case to the press, and claimed the accusation could bias people against the government.
The judge told both sides to propose language that she will take under consideration.
Hernandez' fiancé and mother were both in court for the hearing, and Hernandez could be seen mouthing 'I love you' to both of them.
The former New England Patriots tight end is charged in the fatal shooting of his friend, Odin Lloyd. He's due back in court for a pretrial hearing on February 5.
