It's not Christmas yet - but the spirit of Santa is already evident.
In Los Angeles, a group called "Adopt A Letter" has answered the wishes of 27,000 children the last six years. This year 12-year-old R.J. Cortz asked for some help so his Mom, who's separated and struggling, could make a holiday meal.

"Some chicken, and meat so she can make my favorite meat loaf for Christmas."
His family got money, toys, and those special groceries.

"I just like the way she makes it, and it's kind of good."
Jolly Old St. Nick spread holiday cheer in Southern Maine by handing out envelopes containing hundred dollars bills to unsuspecting folks.
(SOUNDBITE) UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN SAYING:
"This is an absolute blessing and it's a complete surprise, so thank you."
In Alabama, Santa left snow behind and headed for the water - taking a break to entertain a crowd at a local boat parade.
And in Minnesota... a soldier traded in his uniform for the iconic red suit... and some scuba gear.
After a nearly year-long deployment in Afghanistan - Minnesota Army National Guard member Nick Aldrich surprised his four young children while they visited the Mall of America's Sea Life Aquarium.
And then he happily retired the Santa costume - ready to suit up simply as Dad.
