David Schmitz wasn't told why he was invited to the Des Moines Radio station for its Annual Christmas show. He probably wouldn't have believed it anyway. (SOUNDBITE): COLLEEN KELLY, RADIO HOST SAYING: "Hello my name is Brenda Schmitz. When you are in receipt of this letter, I will have already lost my battle with ovarian cancer." As part of its 20 year tradition of granting Christmas wishes - the station selected a letter David's late wife wrote and shared with a friend two months before her death in 2011. (SOUNDBITE): COLLEEN KELLY, RADIO HOST SAYING: "I told her once my loving husband David had moved on in his life, and met someone to share his life with again to mail this letter to all of you at the station." Brenda's letter contained three final Christmas wishes. (SOUNDBITE): COLLEEN KELLY, RADIO HOST SAYING: "I was hoping that one small act you could do for me could change their lives forever and they know I am with them always." For her husband's new partner Jayne Abraham, who he proposed to in September - a little pampering. (SOUNDBITE): COLLEEN KELLY, RADIO HOST SAYING: "She deserves it. Being a step mother to all those boys and especially giving little Max a mother's love that only she can give." For the husband and four sons she left behind - a magical trip. And for the hospital staff that cared for her in her final days - a night of food and fun. (SOUNDBITE) DAVID SCHMITZ, HUSBAND SAYING: "That was the kind of thing she did. She had great foresight. But afterwards, quite touching." (SOUNDBITE) JAYNE ABRAHAM, FIANCEE SAYING: "The biggest thing was that she said I love you and that was the hardest most gracious thing that I received." Local businesses helped make Brenda's wishes come true - including sending Brenda's family to Disney World. (SOUNDBITE): COLLEEN KELLY, RADIO HOST SAYING: "May God bless you and keep all of you safe there, thanks for this. When you wish upon a star, Brenda."
