ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) A Bolivian bus overturned in northern Chile on Friday (December 27), killing at least 10 passengers and injuring more than 30, authorities said. The bus was traveling along route 11, en route from Cochabamba, Bolivia to Arica, Chile, when it overturned in the early evening. Public prosecutor Francisco Ganga said the bus may have been traveling at excessive speeds. "There was this transit accident, of a bus with Bolivian plates, that came from Bolivia headed to Arica. According to the preliminary investigation, the clues on the pavement, it appears that the bus was speeding, the driver lost control of the vehicle and, well as you can see, it overturned, causing this unfortunate accident," he said. Officials said the victims included a young boy. About 30 people, some with serious injuries, were taken to local hospitals. Officials have said they fear there may be more fatalities among the victims.
