STORY: The bloodied face of student protester at Al-Azhar University in Cairo was seen as he was carried by a crowd to an ambulance outside the institution's campus on Sunday as battles with police at the university continued into a third day.
Crowds were seen carrying the student and putting in into an ambulance, where medics began treating him before the ambulance drove off.
Al-Azhar, a respected center of Sunni Islamic learning, has for months been the scene of protests against what the recently-outlaw Muslim Brotherhood calls a "military coup" that deposed Islamist Mohamed Mursi as president in July after a year in office.
Students were seen throwing rocks from campus buildings, while local residents threw rocks back at them, standing among a sea of strewn debris in the street and armored vehicles nearby.
The Egyptian government has intensified its crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood since Wednesday (December 25) when it officially declared it a terrorist organization.
