Dec. 31 - Nepal's elephants race each other as part of an annual festival. Tara Cleary reports.

This year's event lasted five days and the winning elephant handler, or mahout was Khaga Choudary - his third victory in as many years. SOUNDBITE: Khaga Choudary, winning mahout of Bahadur Gaj, saying (Nepali): "It depends on one's handling and skills. The more one tries, the better the elephant runs." Mahouts have defended their training methods after coming under fire from animal rights groups.
